Alan E. Diehl

Alan Eugene Diehl, Sr., 83, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 24, 1931, in Freeport, the son of Harold A. and Nellie (Brinkmeier) Diehl. After graduating from Lanark High School, Alan enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Berlin, Germany from 1948 until 1952 during the Berlin Airlift. He graduated from DeVry Technical Institute in 1956 and worked as a program engineer at WTVO TV stations for over 33 years retiring in 1994. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanark. Alan was an avid Cubs fan and was a member of the VFW and the Berlin U.S. Military Veterans Association.
Survived by his daughter, Marilyn (Don) Wenzel; son, Kevin Diehl; daughter, Karen Lynn (Peter) Vargas; grandchildren, Christopher, Kelly, and Cory O'Brien, Alana Diehl and Heather Vaughn; brother, Gerald (Patricia) Diehl; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, his son, Alan E. Diehl, Jr, and his infant sisters, Muriel and Marilyn Diehl.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M., Monday, June 9, 2014, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Av Rockford, 61103, with Reverend Krista Zimmerman officiating. Burial in Lanark Cemetery at a later date. Visitation from 5:00 P.M. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
