Ann J. Zawacki

Ann J. Zawacki, 88, of Rockford, died Monday, March 22, 2010, at Bickford House of Rockford. Born December 2, 1921 in Chicago, daughter of George and Tekla Chmiel. Ann attended UCLA and graduated from Roosevelt University of Chicago, receiving her Bachelors of Science in 1950 and went on to Taylor Teacher College, graduating in 1958. Married on July 3, 1950, to her beloved husband, Frank H. Zawacki, who preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 2009. Ann lived the first 13 years of her married life in Thorp, Wisconsin, where she taught 1 st grade at Owen School. Later, Ann was a teacher for the Rockford School District, teaching at Whitehead and Rolling Green Elementary Schools. Member, Teachers Union, the Retired Teachers Association, and the Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority. A long time member of St. Rita Catholic Church and St. Rita VIP Seniors Club, serving as Social Chair for many years. She enjoyed shopping, gardening and traveling. She was also an avid reader, card player and liked to work on puzzles. Although Ann was a full time teacher, she was also full a time mom and a wonderful, caring woman and will be missed by all. Survivors include her daughters, Alice Leppert-Jung (Marlin Jung) of Madison and Donna Soltys (Dr. Brian) of Rockford; grandchildren, Doug and Brent Soltys and Abby and Brian Jung (step grandson). Funeral Mass is at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 17, at St Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Drive, with Monsignor Kobbeman officiating. Inurnment in Arlington Memorial Park. Visitation in the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family for a fund to be established at a later date.
