Barbara A. Larson

Barbara Ann Larson R.N., 89, of Rockford, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018. She was born March 22, 1928, in Rockford, Illinois, the daughter of Ewald Joseph and Elizabeth (Lane) Larson. Barb graduated from Muldoon High School, class of 1946. She obtained her registered nursing degree from Little Company of Mary Nursing School, Evergreen Park, IL. Barb began her long career in nursing at the old Rockford Memorial hospital on Chestnut St. She also worked in San Francisco, Ca. and Kahuka, HI. Barb returned to Rockford to become the head nurse of pediatrics at Rockford Memorial Hospital. After twenty plus years in pediatrics Barb transferred to the neonatal unit as well as the Mother – Baby Unit, retiring after thirty three years. Barb was known for her dedication and compassion especially in the care of her beloved mother. Barb loved to knit, crochet, play cards and travel. Barb’s guiding light was her love of God. She firmly believed in the power of prayer.
Survived by her niece, Lisa (Matt) McMullen and family; numerous cousins; cherished and devoted cousin, Susan (Tom) Hougan, who cared for Barb through the good times and the bad times until the very end. Predeceased by her parents; brother Joe Larson; sister-in-law, Ursala Larson and many aunts, uncles and cousins. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice, Zita and Nikki, for their loving care and support.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2018 at Holy family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Rd, Rockford, IL 61107. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church.
