Bertil E. Johnson, 84, Rockford, died at 12:39 a.m. Monday, August 1, 2011 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center.nbsp; Born December 16, 1926 in Rockford, son of Edgar and Bertha Ericson Johnson.nbsp; Graduated from East High School in 1945 and continued throughout his life to be involved in class reunions. Veteran of the U.S. Army.nbsp; Married Genevieve L. Yankus in Loves Park on June 6, 1954.nbsp; He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and had formerly been a long time member of Alpine Lutheran Church. Bertil had previously been employed by City National Bank and spent numerous years in sales at Rockford Standard Furniture.nbsp; He had been a realtor for several area realtors and was well known as a self employed photographer. Former member of Alpine Kiwanis Club, the Pine Tree Jazz Club and was a volunteer for NIRIS.nbsp; Bert was a gregarious man who was very interesting as well as interested in the world around him.nbsp; He was kind, respectful, generous and empathetic. Always intelligent and well-read, but most importantly, he was a man of wisdom.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve; sons, Stuart Johnson, Frank (Helen) Johnson, Ted (Melissa) Johnson and Cliff (Nicole) Johnson; grandchildren, Nathaniel (Christina), Zachary, Kiersten, Lindsey and Emily as well as several nieces and nephews.nbsp; Predeceased by his parents and sisters, Margaret Carlson, Erna Grahn and Sylvia Johnson. The family wishes to thank Dr. Edison Lim and Dr. Azar Kahn for their excellent care.
Funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2011 in Our Saviors Lutheran Church with Rev. Woody Knutson officiating.nbsp; Burial in Kishwaukee Cemetery.nbsp; Visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service at the church.nbsp; Memorials may be made to the Barbara Olson Center of Hope, 3206 N.
