C.L. Thompson, 92, Rockford, died at 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 in Alpine Fireside Health Center. Born in Ardmore, OK, on December 29, 1920, son of Frank J. and Dollie McNeely Thompson. Rockford resident since 1956, coming from Oklahoma City. Graduated from Shawnee Oklahoma High School and Oklahoma A&M College. Married Irene Cantwell in Seminole, OK on December 20, 1944, Proud veteran of the U.S. Navy where he was a Signalman 2nd Class in both the European and Pacific Theaters of WWII. C.L. had a lifetime career in the printing profession. He was employed as a type setter in the composing room of the Rockford Register Star for 25 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Central Christian Church and was also a member of Loves Park VFW Post #9759 and former member of ITU, Local 213. One of his biggest thrills was being fortunate enough to be able to travel to Washington, D.C. with Vets Roll to visit the WWII Memorial with 200 other veterans in 2011. Survivors include his daughter, Inis (Charles A.) Bloomster; son, Paul L. Thompson; granddaughters, Holley (Greg) Phillips and Julie (Nick) Olmstead; great-grandchildren, Karley and Sidney Phillips and Mattison, Caden, Brennan and Brooklyn Olmstead and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, his wife, Irene on January 4, 2013; great-granddaughter, Alexis Olmstead and sisters, Gertrue Larch-Miller and Geraldine Dutton. C.L.'s family would like to thank Dr. Steve DiSanti and his staff and the staff at Alpine Fireside Health Center for the loving care that was given to him. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m,. Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road with Sherm Nichols officiating. Burial in Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation from 4-7 p.m. Monday and from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family
