Carl P. Gelasio, 88, Loves Park, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011, in his home.Born October 5, 1923, in Rockford, the son of James and Anna (Fabiano) Gelafio.He married Joyce K. "Peggy" Sorenson in Rockford on June 28, 1947.She passed away in Rockford on April 26, 1994.He was a WWII Army veteran and served in Burma and India. Carl was a foreman at Anderson Brothers for many years. He was later employed as a ranger at Aldeen Golf Course before working part time for Nihan and Martin Pharmacy. Carl was a past member of St. Bridget Catholic Church. Carl passed away with the love of his special friend during his last 17 years, Melva Ford and her children and grandchildren, Sandi (Gary Johnson), Bob (Debbie), Sue (Chuck Ellis), and grandchildren who knew Carl as "Grandpa Charlie" , Connor and Reese Ellis, Kyle and Joel Ford, Jake and Jordon Johnson. Carl was a central and important part of their family and will be missed by all.Survived by many nieces and nephews including, Frank (Linda) Gelafio, Janice (Brian) Eber, Debbie (John) Guy, James Gelafio, Victor Gelafio, Sharon Gelafio, Judy Morse, Joan Gartner, and David Gelafio; sister, Evelyn "Lynn" Robinson; sisterinlaw, Emily Gelafio. Predeceased by his wife, Peggy; brothers Vic and Frank Gelafio; and niece, Marilyn Gelafio. Private family funeral services, followed by military honors, were held and burial was in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S.
