David L Ferguson

March 28, 1947 — March 22, 2015

David L. Ferguson, 67, of Rockford, went to his heavenly home after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma, on March 22, 2015; with his family at his side. He was born on March 28, 1947; in Waterloo, Iowa; son of Dale and Carol (Bolster) Ferguson. He married Dixie (Rhodes) Ferguson on April 11, 1992; in Waterloo, Iowa. David served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era, as a Staff Sergeant/Inventory Management Specialist; at Hickam Air Force Base, in Hawaii. He continued his career with a BS in business, from Loras College, in Dubuque; later receiving his APICS certification. In his area of expertise, David worked for John Deere Co., American Transportation, GC Thorsen Company, and as a manufacturing business consultant for Oracle Corporation. As a retiree, he enjoyed traveling, golf, race cars, and spending time on the lake. David was an avid reader, and loved the Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and served as a lector and as a Eucharist minister.
David is survived by his wife Dixie Ferguson; children, Michelle Rhodes, Melissa (Mohammed) Khattab, Zachary (Heather) Ferguson; brother, Paul (Trish) Ferguson; 7 grandchildren; special friend, Nick DalSanto, who was like a son; his constant companion, Molly, his bischon frieze; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased his mother, Carol (Bolster) Acker; step-father, Dr. Richard Acker; father, Dale F. Ferguson; step-mother, Betty Ferguson; sister, Ellen Ferguson; all of Waterloo, IA; and his beloved pets, Missy and Boots. David’s family would like to thank his many friends at Classic Limousine, you were always there for him. Thank you to all the physicians and nurses, CNA’s and staff that took care of David, while at Rockford Memorial Hospital. His special “girls” in the Cancer Center, that were his family. A special thank you to his personal physician, Dr. Vincent Racanelli. A very special thank you to Dr. Natalie Callander, at University of Wisconsin. Dr. Callander was with David all the way during his courageous battle. She was his angel to hold onto while he was developing his wings. To Heartland Hospice, we can’t thank you enough. Your tender and compassionate care given to David, meant the world to us. A very special thank you to Steve Sternickle; he was our lifeline. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 30, 2015, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Rd., Rockford, IL, 61107. Burial will be at Guilford Union Cemetery, in Rockford. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL, 61108; with the Rosary recited at 4:00 p.m.; visitation will continue on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of prayers at 10:15 a.m. Memorial donations in David’s name may be made to the Trillium Fund: UW Carbone Cancer Center, 600 Highland Ave., K4/658, Madison, WI, 53792-6164. Funeral arrangements are being cared for by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory.
