Debbie Newman

Debbie Newman, 64, Rockford, passed away in her home with her husband at her side on Sunday, March 15, 2015. She was born March 18, 1950, in Joliet, the daughter of Charles and Rose Dishinger. Debbie’s father, mother, brother, and sister, died in an automobile accident when she was 15 years old. From that point forward she was raised by the Ratican family living in Mundelein. Debbie married Larry Newman in Chicago on October 19, 1974. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s of Notre Dame and received her Master’s degree in education from Northern Illinois University. Moving to Rockford and starting her family, she attended St. Bridget Catholic Church where her sons attended school. She later was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Legion of St. Mary. She most recently attended St. Edward Catholic Church. When she was young she worked as a forensic chemist in Chicago and then in Rockford. After raising her four sons, Debbie taught Chemistry at Roosevelt School and most recently at Guilford High School. Debbie enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, sewing, and was a fantastic cook, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. Debbie’s strong faith was an integral part of her life.
Survived by her loving husband, Larry; her 4 sons, John Newman of New York City, Charles (Valerie) Newman of Chicago, David (Fiance, Roberta Monigold) Newman of Machesney Park, and James Newman of Roscoe; her grandchildren, Lucas, Max, Mason and Savanna Newman. Predeceased by her parents, Charles and Rose, her brother, Chucky, and her sister, Sheryl.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 20, 2015, at St. Edward Catholic Church, 3004 11th St. Rockford, 61109, with Reverend Anthony Pantyra officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded following her services. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00P.M. Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd, Rockford, 61108, with the Rosary recited at 7:00P.M. Visitation will also be from 10:00A.M. until 10:45 A.M. in the Parish Hall at the church.
