Donald S. Benthal, 77 Rockford Donald S. Benthal, 77 of Rockford died September 16, 2009 at 2:45 p.m. at home with his family. Born January 2, 1932 in Milwaukee, WI to David and Ann (Morrissey) Benthal. Lived 53 years in Rockford, coming here from Milwaukee. Don served in the US Army. Graduated from Marquette University with a degree in Business Administration. Married Colleen McCanna in St. James Catholic Church on Aug. 1, 1959 in Rockford, Illinois. Don was owner/manager of Photo Copy Service for over 40 years. Through the Rockford Jaycees Don volunteered at the Durand Boys farm school and served on the board of Rosecrance for several years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and enjoyed membership in the Rockford-As-model "A" club. Don and Colleen enjoyed driving his model "A" on tours with the club. Served on the finance commission Holy Family Church in the 1980s and served as an usher for 15 years. Favorite sports were sailing and golfing with friends and family. His greatest love was his family and grandchildren. Though a valiant effort was made to overcome his illness Don came to acceptance with dignity and grace. The entire family received many graces through the abundant prayers of others. Survivors; wife, Colleen; children, Catherine Benthal of Elgin, Stephen (Eileen) Benthal of Riverhead, NY, Patricia (James) Goebel of Caledonia, Donald P. (Allison) Benthal of Rockford, John Benthal of Atlanta, Ga., and Carol (Daniel) Bingley of Rockford. Grandchildren; David, Anna, Mary Angela and Johanna Benthal, Michelle, Suzanne, Shannon and Joy Goebel, Makenna and Arianna Benthal , Fiona, Lily and Ava Bingley. Dons brothers and sisters; David (Julie) Benthal of Mt. Dora, Fl, Carol Rouiller of Milwaukee, WI, and Jon of Charleston, S.C.. Predeceased by his parents Ann and David Benthal and sister-in-law Mary Benthal. Funeral Mass 11 am Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church 4401 Highcrest Road with Father Randy J. Fronek officiating. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 8 pm on Monday, September 21, 2009 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home (Mulford Chapel). Visitation will continue from 10 until 10:45 am Tuesday morning at Holy Family Catholic Church.
