Douglas P. Donahue

October 22, 1956 — March 26, 2014

Douglas P. Donahue, 57, went to be with our Lord, Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in his home surrounded by his loving family. Doug was born on October 22, 1956 in Freeport, to Paul and Nancy (Highbarger) Donahue. He married the love of his life, Teresa Vaccarello on September 17, 1977. He graduated from Freeport High School and worked as a machinist for many years. Doug loved reading, family game nights and watching all the beautiful wildlife in his backyard. Doug and Teresa enjoyed traveling to different beaches to enjoy the warmth of the sun. He was an avid sports fan but truly enjoyed his Chicago Bears, Bulls, Cubs and cheering on the local teams. One of his favorite memories was of watching a Cubs game from a rooftop. During his illness, he enjoyed his visits with his coworkers, special friends and family. His strong will and positive outlook was an inspiration to all. A special thanks for all the love and support to everyone through this difficult journey.
He is survived by his loving wife Teresa, mother Nancy, brothers and sisters-in-law Daniel & Dawn Donahue and Dennis & Beth Donahue. Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law; Fidencio & Maria Perez, Bob & Rosalie England, Rita Vaccarello-Leon, Rick & Salvatrice Pigatti and Sam Vaccarello; aunts and uncles, several nieces, nephews and numerous cousins.
Predeceased by father Paul, sister Diane, grandparents, mother and father in law. The family would like to thank Dr. Mardini and staff from Swedish American Cancer Center; nurse Deb from Swedish American Home Health Care for her care and compassion; Dr. Klemen and staff at NIH and the nurses and staff at Heartland Hospice Care, especially Jen for her care and support; Brother James Dufresne and cousin Debra Tarara for their spiritual support.
