EDITH (VISSER) BRECKENRIDGE, 97 ROCKFORD - Edith (Visser) Breckenridge, 97, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011. Born Sept. 2, 1913, in Holland, Mich., to Ruurd and Lubertha Visser. She grew up in Holland, together with her four sisters, Mary, Johanna, Gertrude and Winifred, and one brother, Edward. She married the Rev. James R. Breckenridge on March 5, 1948, he passed away in 2008 after 60 years of marriage. Their ministry spanned 39 years, including Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church in Milan and a newly organized Presbyterian Church in Sherrard. They then served First Presbyterian Church in Minonk for seven years; Parkland Presbyterian Church in Flint, Mich., for 28 years; and First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, Wis., for four years. Edith also enjoyed a career as a medical secretary in Holland and Flint. They retired to Rockford in 1986, continuing to be active in church and community organizations. She has been a faithful member of Willow Creek Presbyterian Church. Survived by daughters, Lou Ann and Janice Breckenridge of Rockford and Atlanta; as well as numerous family members in Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas and California. She also has been ""mom"" to many others. Service at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, with visitation from 1 p.m. to time of service; Pastor Brad Rogers of Westminster Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial in Guilford Union Cemetery, Rockford.
