Elizabeth Bettie Currie, 87, Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. She was born in Troy, NY on February 26, 1925; the daughter of Theodore and Kate Neals. Bettie married James Currie in Hyde Park, MA on October 23, 1941. Together she and Jim lived in Rockford before retiring to Alabama. They lived 25 years there until their return to Rockford. She worked for and retired from JC Penney and founded the Bright Pennies Retirement Group in Rockford. Bettie was an active member of Jobs Daughters and Red Hat Society. She also founded and established libraries in Lillian, Al. and at Independence Village in Rockford. Bettie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother.nbsp; She will be missed by all who loved her and everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her son, David Currie of Pensacola, FL; daughters, Mari (Ken) Alfrey and Heather (Michael) Wysong of Soddy Daisy, TN; grandchildren,nbsp; Jennifer Reader, Jessica (Nathan) Grove, James Allen (Christina) Penman, Kristofer (Katelyn) Wysong, Jonathan (Melissa) Wysong and Nicholas Wysong; greatgrandchildren, TJ, Kylie and Kenton Schrader, Tyler, Logan and Abigail Grove, Hunter and Landon Penman.nbsp;nbsp; Predeceased by her husband James W.; sons, George Thomson Currie and Kenneth Currie; daughter, Judith Penman; granddaughter, Rebecca Wysong.

Funeral service at 4:00 p.m.nbsp; on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd with Pastor David Meggers from Christ the Rock Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
