Eugene V. Melvin

Eugene Gene V. Melvin, 79, Rockford, died Friday, March 20, 2009, at home. Born April 28, 1929, in La Farge, WI the son of Basil S. and Esther (Parr) Melvin. Gene attended Lower Weister Grade School and was a 1947 graduate of La Farge High School. He married Geraldine Mashak in LaCrosse, WI August 19, 1950. She predeceased Gene December 28, 1986. He moved to Rockford in 1954. Gene was a mechanic for Ingersoll Milling Machine Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1989. He attended St. Partrick Catholic Church. Survived by sister, Lorraine (Dan) Erickson, Albert Lea, MN; brothers, Charles (Marilyn) Melvin, La Farge, WI, and Ray (Verla) Melvin, Roy, Utah; aunts, Rosie and Velma Parr and Lydia Melvin; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Darla Walter, Terry Firch, Kevin Orr, and Jason Pederson, Dennis and Craig Cross and Ed Verkuilen. Predeceased by his wife, Geraldine, parents, sister, Lola Pelton and brother Laverne Melvin. Gene will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral service will be 1 PM, Thursday, March 26, 2009, in Faith United Methodist Church in La Farge with Pastor George Shick officiating. Burial in Salem Ridge Cemetery, La Farge, WI. Visitation from 5PM until 7PM, Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.
