Fay Dewey Potter, 88, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born on July 4, 1922; the son of Ralph and Evangeline (Dewey) Potter. Married to Ruth Zuidema. He served in the Navy during WWII at Omaha beach on D-Day. Fay owned the Valencia Apartments in Rockford for 30 years and the Suds-O-Mat in Dekalb for 14 years. He retired from the U.S. Post Office as a maintenance engineer. Fay attended Christ the Rock Lutheran Church. Was a member of Masonic Prairie Lodge No. 125 of Rensselear, IN and the Postal Credit Union where he served as a board member.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ruth; children, Kregg (Deborah) of Elmhurst, Bruce (Marcella) of Rockford, Phillip (Dawn) of Machesney Park and Sandra Pouleson of Oak Brook; grandchildren, Amy (David) Loner, Sara Potter, Brittany and Brock Potter, Sabrina amp; Royce Pouleson, Brooke Little Britches Potter; great-grandchild, Andrina Loner; brothers and sisters, Roger Potter of Belvidere, Lois Ream of San Antonio, TX; Gerald Zalewski of North Carolina; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; brothers, Kenneth Potter and Virgil Zalewski.
Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford IL with Pastor David Meggers of Christ the Rock Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a Masonic service at 6:45 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial in Wyoming Cemetery in Paw Paw, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to any veterans organization of choice.
