George B Hermanson

George B. Hermanson, 88, Rockford, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013. He was born in Motala, Sweden on January 27, 1925; the son of Berndt and Hilma Emilia F. (Karlsson) Hermanson. George was a proud US veteran serving in the navy from 1943 – 1946. During WWII he was a guard gunner aboard the USS Adoniram and the USS Charles Warfield. George was among the best fighting men on the sea and earned the Gallant Ship Unit Citation Bar for his honorable service. He married Dorothy Heins on March 8, 1947. George worked as an electrician for IBEW local 364 for over 60 years. He was instrumental in the construction of the Byron Nuclear Power Plant. He was a fond traveler; he and Dorothy covered all of the United States and even ventured over seas. He was a lifetime member of the Moose Club. He also volunteered for many years in the annual Rockford parades. George is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his niece, Norma (Johnson) (Jack) Lucas; great-niece, Christine (Steven) Gustafson; great-nephew, Michael (Patti French) Lucas. Also, two great- great grand niece’s Jennifer & Amy Lucas. Predeceased by his parents; sister, Merit Brigitta Hermanson Wells. Funeral service at 11:00 am on Friday, August 2, 2013 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service.
