George J. Cicero

April 9, 1930 — January 29, 2022

George J. Cicero, 91, of Rockton, IL passed away January 29, 2022 at Highview in the Woodlands. He was born April 9, 1930 in Rockford, IL. He was the son of Paul and Mary (Zinna) Cicero. George served in the US Marine Corps in Korea from 1951-1953. He married Mavis Ann Frion in Rockford, IL in December of 1959, and they raised two daughters together. He worked as a building engineer for the Rockford Public Schools for many years until he retired in 1990.

Family was extremely important to George, and he loved spending time with his adored wife, children, and grandchildren, particularly if there was pasta and “sugo” being served. He enjoyed sharing stories about growing up in the 1930’s, his time in the Marines, and how he once got electrocuted when a ladder he was using hit a power line while he was washing windows.

Survivors include: daughters, Mary (Keith) Blackwell and Toni (Jim) Koteski; grandchildren, Kat Blackwell, Maddie (Joe) Gorski, Dan Koteski, Matt Koteski, and special cousin, Jenny (Chuck) Marino. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Mavis, and granddaughter, Abigail Michelle Blackwell. Special thanks to staff at Highview in the Woodlands for their wonderful care for the last five years.

Private family service will be held this week. Arrangements entrusted to Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel. Send online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com
