Harry K. Mangiaforte, 73, of Machesney Park passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born September 6, 1940, in Benton, Illinois, the son of Joe and Leona (Daisy) Mangiaforte. Harry was a veteran serving in the United States Army. He received his Bachelors degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He married Peggy Barker on November 10, 2000 at Riverside Community Church, where they were both members. Harry worked in Human Resources for the State of Illinois. He was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. He loved sharing a good beer with family and friends and enjoyed history.
Survived by his wife, Peggy; sons, Jim (Noha Mandour) Mangiaforte, Bob (Cindy) Mangiaforte, Michael Mangiaforte and Clay (Barb) Soares; daughters, Samantha Books and Vanessa (Kevin) Mitchey; step-daughter, Susan Schoening; sister, Karen (Ken) Mangiaforte Martin and 10 grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents and daughter, Sarah Mangiaforte.
Harry graciously donated his remains to SIU Carbondale for research. Memorials may be made in Harry's name to the St. Louis Zoo, Living Promise Campaign, PO Box 790090, St. Louis, MO 63179-9927, which will go to help fund the polar bear exhibit that Harry very much enjoyed.
