Janet Ann Miller

February 27, 1935 — August 6, 2015

Janet Ann Miller, 80, lifelong resident of Rockford, passed away August 6th, 2015 after a long illness, with her loving husband by her side. Born on February 27th, 1935 to Robert E. Hough and Maude Mae Johnson. Jan graduated from RK Welsh Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High School, and West Senior High School. Jan worked for Greenlee Tool Company, in the Personnel Department, and for the City of Rockford Water Administration, retiring in 2004. Jan was known as a loving and caring person to all. She loved animals, adopting many dogs, cats, birds and squirrels. Jan loved her home and created a wonderful sanctuary for wildlife, which she lovingly took care of. Jan was both an art enthusiast and an artist. Her home showcases several pieces of her original artwork. Jan loved flowers and would often work from sun up to sun down “playing in the dirt” in her beautiful garden. Jan was a member and donor to Winnebago County Animal Services and the Roscoe Animal Retreat. Jan was also a former member of Macktown Women’s Golf League, where she received many acclaims, despite her small stature. Jan married Roland “Ron” Gudie in 1980, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Jan is survived by her husband Roland “Ron” Gudie; daughter Jill (Thomas) Johnson; son Jon Michael (Gloria) Miller; step-son Troy (Trudie) Gudie; grandson John Carlson’ twin granddaughters Elisabeth “Beth” and Abigail “Abby” Johnson; step-grandsons Benjamin “Ben” and Alexander “Alex” Gudie. Special extended family members include Clifford “Cully” Carlson, Leah Kopp-Crabb, Colleen and Andrew “Andy” Baumgarner, and Alexander “Alex” Baumgarner.
Preceded in death by her father Robert E. Hough, her mother Maude Mae Johnson, her sister Ruth Kaiser, and former husband John F. Miller.
At Jan’s request, there will be a private family service to be held at a later date. Arrangements made by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61108. In lieu of flowers, donations to Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary or Roscoe Animal Retreat appreciated.
