Josephine C. Guarino

Josephine C. (Gulatto), Guarino, 93, of Rockford passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, August 25, 2015. She was born September 1, 1921 in Alton, IL, the daughter of Peter and Josephine (Palmero) Gulotta. She married Joseph Guarino on September 14, 1941 at St. Anthony’s Church in Rockford. She worked for Roma Bakery at North Towne Mall and Bergner’s Distribution Center. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Josephine enjoyed cooking for her family, especially on Sugo Sundays and soup on New Year’s Day. She also enjoyed going to Bergner’s Breakfasts, gambling at the boat, playing Skit Skat, and traveling with friends and family. More than anything, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Josie’s feisty spirit and sayings will be missed by all who loved her.
Survivors include her son Frank (Pat) Guarino of Austin, TX. Son-in-Law James Krein of Rockford. Brother, Sam Gulatto and Sister-in-law Annie Fertitta. Grandchildren, Jimmy (Laura) Krein, Julie (David) Hindenburg, Becky (Joe) Miceli, Amy (Rusti) Swanson all of Rockford, Christopher Guarino and Jason Guarino of Austin TX. Great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Rachel, Joseph, Sarah, Maria, Rebecca, Peter, Isabella, Olivia and Anthony Krein. Jenna, Jessica, Josephine and Jacob Hindenburg. Joseph and Benjamin Miceli. Eric, Andrew and Kayla Swanson. Great-Great-grandchild Melanie Hindenburg. Close family/friends Michelle Gulatto, Armando and Frances Aronica and Melody Maney. Predeceased by Husband, Joseph, Daughter, Margaret, Parents Peter and Josephine, Brothers, Jasper, Joseph (Buck), Alec, Tony and Infant sister Mary. Our deepest appreciation to all of Josie’s loving caregivers, especially Sandra, Sandy, Rachel, and Ashley.
Funeral Mass at 10am Saturday, August 29, 2015 in St. Bernadette Church 2400 Bell Ave. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm, with a rosary recited at 7:00pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 3910 N.
