Lawrence O'Neil

Lawrence Eugene ONeil, 83 of Rockford died Sunday, June 3, 2012 in his home. Born November 5, 1928 in Pinckneyville, IL the son of Elvis and Lela (Welch) ONeil. Married his loving wife Mary ONeil on December 21, 1948 in Pigott Arkansas. They were married for 62 wonderful years before she preceded him in death in July 2011. United States Veteran serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Lawrence worked as an industrial electrician at WF and John Barnes until they closed and then Rockford Automation from which he retired from. A member of the American Legion in Durand and was an avid fisherman and enjoyed ice fishing. He was a wonderful person who will be missed dearly by all. Survivors include his son Danny (JoEllen) ONeil of Cherry Valley; daughter, Sheryl Ann ONeil of Peoria and grandchildren, Nolan (Sherry) ONeil of Machesney Park and Sarabeth (Michael) McAuliffe of Oak Park; great grandchildren, Kathryn, Elizabeth, Gordon, Samantha, Morgan and Elijah; brothers, Bill (Patricia) ONeil of CA and Jim ONeil of NM. Preceded in death by his parents, wife; sister, Betty Runion and sisterinlaw, Jeanne ONeil. Funeral service Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Chaplain Dean Parker officiating. Interment will be at Arlington Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
