Lois J Floress

April 23, 1938 — December 19, 2017

Lois J. Floress passed away on December 19, 2017 in Rockford, IL. She was born on April 23, 1938 in Mt. Pleasant, IA to W.C. and Anna Belle Frame. She was the beloved wife of Irving Floress, her husband of 51 years. Lois and Irv raised six children, Michael (Marilyn), Patrick (Eleanor), Colleen Halter, Carin (John) Rupp, Glen (Diana), and Suzanne (Willie) Escueta. Together, they cherished their 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. Lois will be deeply missed by her numerous nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law and her large extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Norma Crawford.

Lois was raised on a farm in Iowa, and enjoyed helping her dad with chores. She learned how to crochet from her mother and grandmother, and had many beautiful doilies displayed on her walls and tabletops.

One goal that Lois had for her life was to do things that would make a difference for children. She knew that reading was a lifelong adventure, and she went on to become a teacher. She taught 2nd grade, remedial reading, and was a reading specialist, first for the Lake in the Hills school district, and later for the Bourbonnais school district, where she held the position of Reading Coordinator. Lois continued her education and proudly received three degrees: a BS, MS, and CAS. After she retired, she became an Adjunct Professor for the National Louis University and taught a Master’s program for many years. Lois always wanted to be an author, and she did become a published author, as well as a convention speaker at many reading conferences.

At home, Lois enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading. Lois had a bookcase filled with books for children (and children at heart) of all ages. Many a young grandchild could be found sitting on her lap reading along with her.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Gifts in her memory may be made to Bernie’s Book Bank, 917 N. Shore Dr., Lake Bluff, IL 60044, www.berniesbookbank.org.
