Lois Janet Peterson

Lois Janet Peterson, 93, died on October 8, 2015 in OSF, with her children by her side. Born January 7th, 1922 to August Edward and Edna Peterson, in Rockford, Illinois. She graduated from Rockford Central High School in 1940. On November 20, 1943 she married Ray “R.C.” Peterson. They enjoyed a wonderful life together for 70 years. She devoted her life to her faith, her family and her friends. She was a daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She excelled in all of these roles and countless others, always finding the good in everyone. Lois was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, chairing their Lucia Celebrations for many years. As a Jenny Lind volunteer at Swedish American Hospital, she served on the board and was chairman of many hospital bazaars and fund raisers.
Survivors include: Daughter, Kay (Bo) Montgomery, son Bradley (Teresa) Peterson, Daughter-in-law Nancy Peterson, grandchildren Quincy Colman, Joel Peterson, Justin Montgomery, Laura (Jim) Larrick, J.J. Peterson, Hannah, Gus and Will Peterson and great grandchildren, Dane, Liam and Soren Peterson, Cooper, Duncan and Lulu Colman, Millie, Otto and Louisa Larrick, nieces and nephews, Dave, Jerry, Mary and Sharon. Predeceased by her parents, devoted husband Ray, loving son Jack, sister and brother-in-law Marion and Curt Reynolds and a host of close friends. The family wishes to express special thanks to her caregiver Birute Tarailiene.
Memorial service will be at 11am Saturday November 14, 2015 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 South Mulford Road with Rev. Denver Bitner officiating. Visitation will be from 10am until time of service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to The Salvation Army, Social Services, 520 Hollister Ave., Rockford, IL 61108.
