Lucille Mae Nelson, 87, Rockford, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 2, 1928, in Two Harbors, MN, the daughter of Theodore and Mary (Woitel) Freeberg. She worked as a bank teller at First National Bank in Two Harbors until she and Dale began their family. Lucille married Dale R. Nelson in Two Harbors on August 27, 1949. He passed away in Rockford on December 27, 2000. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she belonged to the Lydia Circle. Lucille enjoyed playing poker, coin and antique collecting, and going to garage sales. She loved to dance, loved her country music, and was a compassionate, loving mom, grandma and great-grandma. She was a past member of Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Country Club for 30 years, and was a member of VASA Lodge, the Moose Club, the Svithoid Club, Rockford Health Club, and the Atwood 9 hole golf group. Lucille volunteered at SwedishAmerican Hospital for 8 years.
Survived by her children, Randy (Rose) Nelson, Christine Huitron, Bruce (Karen) Nelson, Roger Nelson, and Julie (David) Jenkins; her grandchildren, Tamara Huitron, Manuel Huitron, Brett (Jenni Jacky) Nelson, Brook (Scott) Stout, Jennifer (George) Stark, Orion Kellogg, Amanda (Anthony Shook) Kellogg, and Lori Chamberlain; her great-grandchildren Nathan Smith, Steven Booth, Ashley Swisher, Garren Nelson, Harper Stout, Mathias, Santiago, and Diego Garcia; her great-great grandchild, Zane Swisher; her sisters, Mary Ann Pearson and JoAnn Gow; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Dale Nelson, son In-law, Antonio Huitron, and her sister, Clarice Smatlak.
