DORSEY, MELISSA 30, WASHINGTON, D.C. formerly from Rockford, IL.nbsp; Melissa died Friday, January 4, 2013 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York from complications from surgery.nbsp; Melissa was born March 16, 1982 on Long Island, New York, the daughter of John and Nancy (Abinanti) Dorsey.nbsp; She graduated from Guilford High School in 2000 and the University of Illinois in 2004.nbsp; She went on to graduate from St. Louis University Law School in 2007 earning her Juris Doctorate.nbsp; Melissa moved to Chicago to work in the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Chicago, IL.nbsp; In January 2010 she moved to Washington, D.C. to work for The Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer.nbsp; In March 2011she was assigned as Consular Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel.nbsp; Melissa had the gift of learning languages and spoke French and Hebrew.nbsp; She was an avid runner and completed three Chicago Marathons.nbsp; She loved to travel and explore different cultures.nbsp; Melissa will be remembered by all that knew her as kind, caring, funny person with an amazing spirit, always filled with energy, contagious giggle, and passion for life. Melissa loved and lived life to the fullest.nbsp; Her sense of wit and humor will stay with all of us that knew her.nbsp;

She is survived by her parents, John and Nancy Dorsey, of Rockford; sister, Meaghan (Matt) Rose of Rockford; brother, Michael (Tina Aarvig) Dorsey of Chicago; Grandparents, Joseph and Irene Abinanti, of New York; Grandmother, Evelyn Dorsey, of New York; several aunts, uncles and cousins.nbsp; Predeceased by her Grandfather, John Dorsey, of New York and uncle, Alfred Dupree, of Georgia.nbsp;

Family and friends will gather for a visitation from 4 to 8 pm, Thursday, January 10th at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, 1860 South Mulford, Rockford, ILnbsp; 61108.nbsp; Funeral mass to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 11th at The Cathedral of Saint Peter, 1243 North Church Street, Rockford, ILnbsp; 61103.nbsp; Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
