Mildred J. Halvorsen

Mildred J. "Millie" Halvorsen, 93, Rockford, died peacefully at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 30, 2012 in Asta Care Center. Born June 4, 1918 in Bidwell, IA, daughter of Robert and Jennie (Lenfant) Lupant. Graduated from Ottumwa, IA High School in 1936. Married Roy H. Halvorsen on September 2, 1945 in Grace United Methodist Church, Rockford. He died June 27, 1975. She was a lifelong bookkeeper who had worked at the Metropolitan Dime Store, Field & Company, Scandia Coal & Lumber and retired in 1988 after 18 years at Rock Valley Brick. Millie was an active member of Creekwood Baptist Church where she had been past president of the Women'¢s Circle. She was always a servant in the kitchen and could often be found washing dishes. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo and loved to read, especially detective stories and Agatha Christie mysteries. Survivors include her daughters, Barbara "Barb" Jurgensmeier and Kristine "Tina" (Donald) Fritz; grandchildren, William Jurgensmeier, Robert (Tracey) Jurgensmeier, Karl Jurgensmeier, Sara (Matt) Bowers, Amy Fritz, Jessica (Joey) Mathews, Joshua Fritz; greatgrandchildren, Wendi, Evan, Elijah, Kaylee, Jenna, Matthew, Elijah; greatgreatgrandchildren, Larraine, Brandon, Eddie, Gracie, Ashton and Kaylee; several nieces and nephews, and special friend and "right arm" , Sue Wallick. Also predeceased by her parents, sister Ida Beyer and soninlaw, Bill Jurgensmeier. Her family would like to thank the residents, nurses, CNAs and the entire staff of Asta Care Center for the wonderful love and care extended to Millie.A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2012 in Creekwood Baptist Church with Rev.Darren Loeppky and Rev. Ed Libby officiating. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. Visitation from 68 p.m. Thursday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. and from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Creekwood Baptist Church 7281 Spring Creek Rd. Rockford, IL 61114.
