Norma Jean Hood, 79, ofMachesney Park,died Monday February 8, 2010 in OSF St Anthony Medical Center after a short battle with lung cancer. Born August 8, 1930 in Dows Iowa, daughter of Clarence (stepmother, Rose Burke) and Mary Richards. Married Bill Hood on June 24, 1950 in Rockford;he died in 2004. She worked for Roper Whitney Co., Rockford. Member of the Auxiliary Club of the Roscoe VFW. Norma loved to cook, talk on the phone, go to lunch with her friends, and all types of music.

Survivors include her sons, Gene Hood of Machesney Park and Steve (Sharon) Hood of Roscoe; grandchildren, Chad and Sarah Hood, Brent (Tracy) Hood, Denise and Brian Hood; six great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Deb Hood of Venice, FL; sisters; Bea (Jack) Burt of Rowan, IA, Joyce Mason of Apple Valley, CA and JoAn Olson of Clarion, IA; and many nieces and nephews.Predeceased also by her parents and son, Doug.

Service at 12:00pm (noon)Saturday February 13, 2010 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Ave, with visitation from 10:30 a.m. to time of service.
