Nyla Kay Free

Nyla Kay Free, 83, of Rockford, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021.

Nyla was born on February 6, 1937, daughter of James E. and Margaret (White) Seddon. She grew up and went to school in Mystic, Iowa where she met, at a young age, the man she would marry in 1960, Jimmie E. Free. Nyla was active with her church for many years. She cherished her role as deaconess as well as her time serving lunch to those in need. Nyla was an avid reader, a love she has instilled in many of her family members. After her husband retired, the two would spend many Thursdays and Fridays going to garage sales in search of things one of her children was wanting. Most of all, Nyla loved her time spent with family and loved ones. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving relatives include her husband Jimmie E. Free; her children, Dawn Free, Julie Campo (husband Peter Campo), Todd Fischer-Free (husband Brian Fischer) and Michael Free (wife Adriana); 8 grandchildren, Kathryn (Kayt) Free, Tyler Free (Samantha “Sam” St. George), Laura Campo (Sean Copeland), Gregory Campo (Isabella Gandara), Hannah Campo (Jacob Behling), Ulises Fernandez, Uriel Fernandez and her first great-grandchild arriving in June; sisters, Etta (Neal) Smith, Dona (Jimmy) Nikolosus; brothers, James (Nancy) Seddon, Richard (Carol) Seddon, Joseph (Vickie) Seddon, Clyde (Rosemary) Seddon; sisters-in-law, Janice Seddon and Sandy Wilke-Free; brother-in-law, Jerry McGowan and many nieces and nephews. Nyla is predeceased by her parents; brothers, Robert and Gerald Seddon; son, Jeffery Free and grandson, Andrew Campo.

A private family service will be held. Final resting place will be in Scandinavian Cemetery. For those that wish, in lieu of flowers, direct gifts to Ronald McDonald House Charities www.rmhc.org.
