Ralph "Red" N. Platt

Ralph “Red” N. Platt, 101, of Winnebago, IL passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021. He was born December, 6, 1919 in Manchester, MI the son to Fred G. and Coral B. (Gray) Platt. Ralph proudly served in WWII in the United States Army Air Corps, receiving the Bronze Battle Star. He married the love of his life, Florence (Miller) on September 23, 1946. Ralph retired from the Winnebago County Health Department as an inspector. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was a friend to everyone he met. He was a member of the Moose Club. Ralph’s passion was horses, especially American Paint Horses, a passion he passed on to many. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Ralph will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Ralph is survived by his children, Sue Heinke and Scott (Cindy) Platt; grandchildren, Paige (Brian Flores) Heinke, Bryce Platt; step grandchild, Tammy (Keith) Christiansen; step great grandchild, Alex Christiansen; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Florence; siblings, Hazel Brown, Robert Platt, Raymond Platt, Carol Tompkins; son-in-law, Ray Heinke. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and the staff of Prairie View Assisted Living in Winnebago for their care and compassion.
A celebration of life will be held at a later time. Cremation rites accorded with Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to VetsRoll and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Share online condolences at www.fitzgerladfh.com.
