Richard "Dick" C. Morris

January 5, 1937 — March 14, 2022

Richard (Dick) C. Morris, 85, of Rockford, IL passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022. He was born January 5, 1937, in Janesville, WI, the first son of Lucille and Carl Morris. The family moved to Rockford when Dick was young and he has called Rockford home ever since. Dick adored his wife Ann (Mattison); they married in August 1964. Dick served in the National Guard and was employed at Sunstrand for forty years, before retiring at 59. He took comfort in his faith and regularly attended mass at St Bernadette’s and Holy Family churches in Rockford.

Family and friends knew Dick was a very active individual with a wide range of hobbies and interests. When Ann first met Dick, he was racing Austin Healeys. He loved to golf, ski, sail and shoot targets at the range. Dick and Ann spent many of their retirement years traveling the globe, visiting all seven continents. A serious photographer, Dick never left home without his camera, and a suitcase full of accompanying lenses and equipment. Friends came by weekly for billiards in his basement. He was musical as well; clarinet, saxophone, and the piano were his instruments of choice. Dick was a lifelong learner; he read daily and enjoyed exchanging books with his son, Matthew. In his final years of life, Dick enjoyed being a grandfather and spending time with his granddaughter.

Dick is survived by his wife Ann, sons Andrew and Matthew (Alli), granddaughter (Daphne), brother Barry, sisters-in-law Lyn and Chris, and several nephews and their families. Predeceased by son David and parents, Lucille and Carl.

At this time, a memorial service is still pending. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family for a memorial to be established. Please share memories and condolences online at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
