Richard S. Brown, 82, Rockford , died Friday, March 1, 2013 in the comfort of his home. Born May 26, 1930 in Rockford , son of Richard B. and Camilla G. Brown. Graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1948 and attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Married Janet M. Gallagher in the Cathedral of St. Peter on October 25, 1952. Veteran of the US Air Force. His faith was very important to him and he was a long time member of St. James Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Retired from Sears in 1988 following a 34 year career in Data Processing and also farmed the Govern family farm which has been in the family for over 100 years. He had been a member of the Winnebago County Zoning Board of Appeals for 28 years. Richard enjoyed genealogy and was very dedicated to his family. He was a giving grandfather and a proud Irishman.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; children, Kathleen Brown, James (Lori) Brown, Patti Brown and Terry (Mary Ann) Brown; grandchildren, Trisha, Tyler, Matthew, Jamie, Brittany and Patrick; cousin, Mary Alice Humpal, numerous nieces and nephews, and his faithful companions who he loved dearly, the dogs, Seamus and Maite and the cats, B.W. and Fluffy. Predeceased by his parents and brother, Ed Brown. Richards family would like to extend their gratitude to Northern Illinois Hospice amp; Grief Center for the loving care that was given to him, as well as Dr. Woodman for his gentle care.

Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2013 in St. James Catholic Church, Rockford with Rev. Dean Russell officiating. Visitation from 57 p.m. Thursday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. Visitation also from 10 a.m. until time of the Mass at the church on Friday. Burial at a later date in St. Mary/St. James Cemetery.
