Robert E. Cross, Jr. died unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, in Charleston, South Carolina. He was born December 11, 1943, in Rockford, to Robert and Hazel (Millwright) Cross. He graduated from Rockford West High School in 1961, and attended Kendall College in Evanston, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judith (Wren) Cross; his son, Andrew (Roberta Alterson); daughters Janet (Timothy) Anderson, and Patricia (Bruce) Kirkham; grandchildren Kelley Cross, Samuel, Thomas, John Paul and Gwendolyn Anderson, and Claire, Emma, and Joseph Kirkham; and sister, Sally (Richard) Paeglow. He is predeceased by his parents. Bob will be remembered as a loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather. His kindness to so many people will not be forgotten.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 4, 2017 at St. Rita Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, September 3, 2017 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. and will continue at St. Rita Catholic Church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to Phantom Regiment or St. Rita Catholic Church appreciated.
