Sharon Lynne Powell, of Rockford, passed away on October 11, 2012, after a long illness.nbsp; Sharon was born on March 15, 1939 to Willard and Bunny (Verna) Yeater in Bismarck, North Dakota. She graduated from Bismarck High School in 1957 and earned a B.S. in Math from Jamestown College in Jamestown, North Dakota. Sharon married Darwin Powell on August 27, 1960 in Jamestown. They taught school together in North Dakota until 1965 when they moved to Rockford, where she and Darwin raised a family of three sons. In 1979, she was asked to substitute for a few days at St. Edwards School. For the next 20 years, she taught math, there nurturing and inspiring her students, many with whom she remained close even after they graduated from college. After her retirement she continued to tutor students from her home. Sharon loved to read, especially mystery books, and work with her hands knitting and sewing. Sharon was a kind, generous, and dedicated wife, mother, and friend.

nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Sharon is survived by her husband, Darwin; three sons, Jeffrey (Lisa) of LaCrosse, WI, Mark of Rockford, and Scott of Kansas City, MO; one grandson Christopher of LaCross; brother, Royce (Bridgit) Yeater of Chicago. Her parents and parentsinlaw preceded her in death.<

nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Monday, October 15, 2012 at St. Edward Catholic Church with Father Thomas Doyle officiating. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 4:00pm, with a rosary recited at 4pm on Sunday, October 14 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108 and will continue on Monday from 9:00 10:00am at church. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
