SHERWIN E. JOHNSON, 78, Rockford, died at 12:12 P.M. Sunday, October 28, 2007 in his home.nbsp;nbsp; Born February 13, 1929 in Rockford, son of Ernest L. andnbsp; Mildred Larson Johnson.nbsp; Graduate of East High School and Carthage College. Veteran of U.S. Navy.nbsp; Married Lois J. Berg in Rockford on August 18, 1951.nbsp; Long time active member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.nbsp; Following college, Sherwin taught school in a one room school house in Rockford for 3 1/2 yearsnbsp; then became an Insurance Adjustor for General Adjustment Bureau. He spent the next 23 years as an Independent Agent for the John Camlin Insurance Agency.nbsp; Sherwin was very active in the Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois Association, serving as State Treasurer for 4 years.nbsp; He was the founder of the Insurance Youth Classic Golf Tournament and was the Chairman for 23 years.nbsp; He served on the National Committee, was involved in the State Tournament for several years and was also very instrumental in involving young women in the Golf Classic. nbsp; Survivors include his wife Lois; children, Sheryl (Marshall) Nelson, David (Debra) Johnson, Grant Johnson and Cynthia (Bruce) Alonzo all of Rockford; grandchildren, Troy (Jessica) Nelson, Tyler, Trent and Trevor Nelson, Michael and Matthew Johnson, Hannah, Savannah, Grant, Jr., Mogen and Ameliah Johnsosn and Kira and Bianca Alonzo.nbsp; Also survived by his great-grandson, Dontae Johnson; brother, Newell (Sandra) Johnson of Rockton and several nieces and nephews.nbsp; Predeceased by his parents and his sister, Phyllis. nbsp; A memorial service will be held atnbsp; 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2007 in Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church with Rev. Janet Wold officiating.nbsp; Visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service at the church.nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church.nbsp; Condolences may be extended to the family at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;
