Stanley (Stasys) Surantas, 87Rockford Stanley Surantas, 87, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 in Rockford memorial Hospital. Born December, 14 1922, in Lithuania. After World War II in 1950 he came to his dreamland USA. He studied at Siauliu Gymnasium (Lithuania) 4 years, University of Munich (Germany) 4 years and American Institute of Banks (New York) 4 years. Worked in New York City as a Bank Internal Examiner (The Hanover Bank-33 branches). Then as Materials and Purchasing Manager at G.C. Electronic-Thorsen for over 27 years in Rockford. Stanley was a long time member of Lithuanian American Community, Rockford Lithuanian Club, Rockford Area Garden of America Club ( has been awarded certificate of honor) and St. Bernadette Catholic Church.Survivors; Wife, Eugenija, nephew Romualdas (Odeta) Surantas, grandnephews Gediminas and Mantas Surantas and grandnieces Monika and Ieva Surantas; Step-daughter, Gintare and Grandson Gabrielius. Predeceased by parents and wife, Danguole (Dana) Stankaitis, M.D. for 49 years in 1997.Funeral Service 11 am Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home (Riverside Chapel) 3910 N. Rockton Road with Father Matthew T. Rudden officiating. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at a later date in Calvary Catholic Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to the Draugas Lithuanian Paper.
