Walter F. Ryan

Walter F. Ryan 79 of Rockford passed away Sunday August 4, 2013 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born August 25, 1933 in Jersey City, NJ, the son of Walter and Edith Ryan. He served in the Army and was stationed in Korea in the 828 Medical Battalion, during the Korean War. He married Marianne Swierzynski in St Stanislaus Church on September 28, 1957. Walter worked at OSF St Anthony Medical Center and St Joseph Hospital, Belvidere as a Medical Technologist. Member of the VFW Belvidere and the White Eagles Club. He enjoyed Gardening, Cooking, Politics and Reading. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Marianne. Four children, Teresa Peters of Rockford, Mary Jo Coleman of Rockford, JoEllen Ryan of Winnebago and Jonathan Ryan of Rockford. Grandchildren, Samantha Ryan, Rachel Peters, Andrew Coleman, Kira Ryan and Halen Ryan. Siblings, Robert, Muriel, Edgar, Shirley, Kenneth, Charles, Donald, Thomas, Carol and George. Best Friend of 60 years, Alex (Emma) LaSala and family. Many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents. Two sons, Steven and Mark. Siblings, Dorothy and Richard. Services at 11am Wednesday August 7, 2013 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home 3910 N. Rockton Ave.. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation from 9:30 until service time Wednesday in the funeral home.
