Barbara "Barb" Joan Bremer, 92, of Rockford, peacefully passed away on February 7, 2026, at Anam Care. She was born on September 18, 1933, in Byron, Illinois, the daughter of Cecil A. and Mary Josephine (Bain) Glawe. Barb graduated from North Boone High School in Capron, class of 1951. She married Russell Oscar Bremer on July 24, 1951, in Rockton, and together they shared 50 years of marriage before his passing on May 30, 2002.
Barb was a former member of Dakota United Methodist Church and Poplar Grove United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge at the Bridge Center of Rockford in later years, round dancing with Russ, golf, quilting, sewing, and keeping a pretty home. Barb and Russ also loved traveling in their motorhome and spending winters in Harlingen, Texas with their good friends. Barb had deep love and devotion for her family.
Barbara is survived by those who loved her most: daughters, Mary Jo (Rich) Collins, Pam (Gus) Gentner, and Patti Bremer; brother, Jerry (Sharon) Glawe; step grandchildren; step great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; cousins; and many dear friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Cecil and Mary; her husband, Russell; and her sister, Beverly Wilson.
The family would like to extend a heart felt thank you to the kind staff at Anam Care and to Mo Cara Hospice for their wonderful care of Barb.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61108, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial donations to Anam Care (8104 Sayer Road, Rockford, IL 61108) to support the renovation of their garden-a place of peace and comfort for residents and families.
