Obituary

Boyce “Dean” Sacrider, 86, passed away on May 19, 2026, in Rockford, Illinois. He was born on July 26, 1939, one of two boys to Frank and Docia (Her maiden name) Sacrider. Dean’s journey through life was marked by an unyielding spirit, a knack for enterprise, and a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Dean’s ambitions led him to Rockford early in life, and with just a few friends, a suitcase and a plan, he set off to make something of himself. During the late 1950s through the ’70s, he owned several clubs and lounges, the Bowtie Lounge and the Feather Club to name a few, and enjoyed sending out his weekly Rockford Nite Times, a paper that let people know where to go if you were looking for something to do over the weekend. His ambitions did not rest there; Dean was a man of many traits and talents. He transitioned into car sales, then ventured into land development sales, eventually blending those professions and adding in contracting work. Dean had a personified hands-on approach to life and an entrepreneurial soul. His career concluded in security for local businesses in the Rockford area.

Dean was never one known to conform, his fierce independence meant he was going to live his life the way he saw fit. It was unmistakable that he would carve his own course and he truly lived boldly along it. Lively and genuine, his honesty was raw and unfiltered. One thing was clear to those who knew Dean: if you were in his corner, he’d do all that he could to help you out. Away from the hustle of work and business, Dean found joy in the simpler pleasures of life: the company of friends and family, enjoying a meal with friend and family at local family-owned restaurants, tending to yard work, and any time spent on the golf course.

He is survived by his children Jamie, Amanda (Joe), and Dean “Dino”; his grandchildren Maggie, Cara, Zeke (Fiancée Angelina), Elliot, and Michael; great-grandson Xavier; his brother, Rayford (Diana); his niece Renee, and her daughter Elizabeth. He is predeceased by his daughter Kelly; his first love Shirley, and his parents Frank and Docia.

A time to gather in honor of Dean will take place on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 pm. At Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108. Burial will take place the following day, Monday, June 1, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 N. Alpine Rd, Machesney Park, IL 61115.
