Dennis Peter Daneels, 86, passed away on September 8, 2026. He was born November 29, 1939, in South Bend, Indiana, the son of Joseph F. and Marian J. (Olsen) Daneels.

Dennis grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduating from Marquette University High School before attending Marquette University. It was in Milwaukee that he met the love of his life, and on May 27, 1967, he married Bonnie K. Hayward. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and enjoying life's simple pleasures.

Dennis dedicated much of his professional life to the steel industry. He worked for U.S. Steel for twenty years before joining Azcon, where he remained for over ten years prior to his retirement in 1992.

A devoted sports fan, Dennis was a walking encyclopedia of sports knowledge; he faithfully followed the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed playing golf for many years and, when he was no longer able to play, remained an enthusiastic spectator of the game.

Dennis was a familiar face throughout his community. He swam Monday through Friday at the Walt Williamson Pool in Rockton, becoming something of an unofficial mascot among fellow swimmers. An avid reader, he was a regular visitor to the Roscoe Public Library and rarely went without a book nearby. Each day, his daughter made sure he had a copy of the Beloit Daily News, one of the many routines he looked forward to. What began as annual summer vacations to Florida eventually led Dennis and his wife to become snowbirds, a lifestyle they enjoyed for many years.

Above all else, Dennis cared deeply about his family. He coached youth baseball and football when his son was growing up and took great interest in the lives of his children. Later, he embraced his role as "Papa," taking even greater joy in following the activities, accomplishments, and adventures of his grandchildren.

Faith remained a guiding presence throughout Dennis's life. His mornings began with devotional readings, his evenings ended with prayer, and every Sunday he faithfully watched Heart of the Nation, a tradition he maintained for more than a decade. Guided by faith and sustained by the love of his family, Dennis lived a life marked by gratitude, consistency, and quiet devotion.

He will be missed by those who loved him most, his wife of almost 60 years, Bonnie; their children Mary Ellen Daneels, Anne Marie Smith, and Peter Joseph (Alice) Daneels; his grandchildren Alex (Sydnie) Smith, Jacob (Emily) Smith, Jessica Smith, Alaina (Nathan) Houha, Josiah Daneels, and Ezekiel Daneels. He is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Marian; his sister Mary Lynn Flood, and his aunt Florence “Bebe” Culhane.

Cremation rites were accorded to Fitzgerld Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel. The family will host a private celebration of his life at a later time.
