Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Doris R. Doyle, who left this world on July 25, 2026, after eighty-nine years of a life marked by unwavering strength, fierce devotion, and endless care for those she loved. She was born on January 6, 1937, the daughter of Clarence and Margaret Ruhl in Chicago, IL. She graduated from Lindblom High School where she met and later married her loving husband, Hugh L. Doyle, on March 17, 1955. They remained married for 59 years until his passing on March 1, 2015.

An avid reader and enthusiastic gardener, her hands were rarely idle, tending to blossoming flowers or turning the pages of her latest novel. Music was the language of her soul—her beautiful singing voice uplifted countless gatherings, and the piano keys seemed to echo with the warmth of her touch.

Those who knew Doris remember her as a strong woman—someone who stood tall amidst life’s challenges, offering reassurance and resolve to everyone around her. She was the protector of her family and friends, never backing down in the face of adversity. Her dedication extended far beyond those in her immediate circle; she dedicated herself to sending care packages to soldiers, reaching out to those far from home and offering comfort and encouragement in times of need.

Her instinct to nurture was a constant presence. There was hardly a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion that passed without one of Doris’ lovingly handmade cards arriving in someone’s mailbox, each one crafted with care and joy.

Doris’s legacy is carried in the kindness she showed and the compassion she poured into her role as a caregiver.

She is survived by her children, Linda (Rick) Swansbro, Cindy (John) Rungren, Debbie (Paul) Green, Kevin (Kim) Doyle, and Karen Doyle; her grandchildren, Shane Doyle, Mike Doyle, Ben Doyle, Alison Smith, Shannon Dew, Kelly Pelsch, Nicole Murawski, Joe Rungren, Kortni Spaulding, Kenzie Green, Samantha Annunziato, Tiffany Silker, and Brendan Silker; her 16 great grandchildren; her brother, James Ruhl; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hugh Doyle; her son, Timothy Doyle; her grandson, Specialist Alan McPeek; and her brother, William “Bill” Ruhl.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Bickford of Rockford for their outstanding care and a thank you to the nurses with Heartland Hospice.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Rd, Rockford, IL, 61107. Burial to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the family for a charity to be determined at a later date.
