Frank Dominic Barraco, age 80, passed away on February 27, 2026, in Sun City, Arizona.
Born in Beloit, Wisconsin on June 14, 1945, (Flag Day) to Joseph and Rose Barraco, Frank always felt a special pride in sharing his birthday with the American flag. Frank grew up in Beloit and carried his Midwestern warmth and strong work ethic with him throughout his life. He proudly served in the United States Navy and remained deeply devoted to his Catholic faith, attending Mass daily and living his beliefs through quiet generosity and kindness.
He was a devoted father, beloved brother, and loyal friend. Frank had a generous spirit and a warm smile that made people feel instantly at ease. He loved his family deeply and took pride in always being there for those he cared about.
Frank believed that food was love. He was an exceptional cook, known for his Italian dishes made without recipes, guided only by instinct and “a handful of this” or “a little of that.” He loved to entertain and would always prepare multiple dishes, just to be sure everyone had something they liked. His home was welcoming, thoughtful, and full of life.
He had a remarkable eye for style and design. He loved to shop and could spot an outfit on a mannequin and know instantly who it would look perfect on. He often helped family and friends find something special to wear, and he had a gift for creating flower arrangements and artwork that looked professionally done. Creative and expressive, he brought beauty into everyday moments.
Frank loved gardening and could spend hours tending to his yard from morning until night. He loved to dress well, dance, and celebrate life. He was endlessly generous, always ready to help anyone who needed anything.
Above all, he was deeply devoted to his daughter, Andrea. He listened patiently, encouraged constantly, and believed wholeheartedly in everything she did. She was his joy, and he was her greatest champion.
He is survived by his daughter, Andrea Petray (Craig), his sister Mickey McCormick, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annette Ingrassia Barraco, and his parents.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Family Church, 4401 Highcrest Rd, Rockford, IL 61107 at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026.
He will be remembered for his faith, his generosity, his creativity, and the love he gave so freely.
