James R. Johnson, 73, passed away on October 31, 2026, at home in Loves Park, Illinois, surrounded by his family.
Jim was born on April 2, 1953, in Janesville, Wisconsin, the son of Richard and Barbara (Walker) Johnson. He graduated from East High School with the class of 1971 and later earned his associate degree from Rock Valley College. Jim married Aurelia "Rose" Rodriguez on September 29, 1990, in Rockford. He worked as a contractor for Elco before becoming a truck driver for Diamond Heat Treat.
He will be remembered as a quiet, shy, loving, and caring man who was devoted to his family. James was a family man in every sense of the word, and those who knew him will remember his steady presence and kind heart.
James enjoyed an active and full life. He was an avid fan of all sports and enjoyed playing golf, bowling, football, baseball, and basketball. He was also a dedicated Green Bay Packers fan. He was given the nickname “Frog” because he jumped so high in sports. In addition to sports, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, cooking, gardening, and fishing.
His faith was an important part of his life. James was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and also volunteered at St. Mary Catholic Church.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rose; children, Chad (Lindsey) Johnson and Ameyali (Andres) Lopez Jr.; grandchildren, Christina, Jayden, Hannah, Lorenzo, and Analicia; sister, Carrie (Steve) Harris; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and classmates. He is predeceased by his parents; sister, Julie Westonberger; and special aunt, Beverly Walker.
The family would like to give a special thank you to OSF Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2026, at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Avenue, Loves Park, Illinois 61111.
