Obituary

Jane E. Vavruska, 95, Rockford, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, in Rockford, IL. She was born on July 10, 1930, in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of James and Helen (Hogue) Janoch.

For over three decades, Jane embraced the role of a housewife. Later, she utilized her keen intellect and analytical skills as a Russian organized crime research analyst for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where she remained until her retirement in 1997 after 10 years.

Jane’s deep connection to her family was rooted in her early years helping to run her family apple orchard, Jan-Ray Orchards. This experience cultivated in her a love for nature, evident throughout her life in her passion for growing flowers and feeding the birds that visited her home. Her love for the outdoors was complemented by an enthusiasm for dance; as a member of the United States Amateur Ballroom Dancers, she delighted in the art and joy of movement.

A woman of faith and compassion, Jane was a devoted parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she generously brought communion to those unable to attend services. Her commitment to service extended beyond her church as well—she was an active member of the Retired Society of FBI Employees and contributed her time and energy to the Literacy Council, where she taught children to read.

She was survived by her children, Margaret (Don) Patrick, Nancy (Jay) Patterson, John (Kim) Vavruska, Joanne Sepanski, Lynn (Steve) Bertelero, Lee (John) Diggs, and Amy (Don) Matthews; her seven grandchildren and her four great grandchildren. She is preceded by her parents, her brother, and her son, James Vavruska.

A visitation will take place on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, Rockford, IL, 61107.
