Mary L. Vigliano, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on March 2, 2026, in Rockford, Illinois, at the age of 97. Born on August 30, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of George and Irene (Daly) Pedresche.
Known for her great sense of humor and generous spirit, Mary was a loving matriarch who cherished her family deeply. Her playful personality and warm heart drew people to her, making her not only a guiding light in her family but also a cherished friend to many.
Mary married Benjamin Rayburn on October 5, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan and together had a loving 22 years before his passing. She then married Norman Vigliano on April 11, 1974, in Tequesta, Florida and enjoyed 20 years of marriage before his passing.
Mary was an active member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and the Holy Family Women's Guild, where she found joy in connecting with others and contributing to her faith community. Her volunteer work at OSF St. Anthony Hospital and the St. Michael's School Library reflected her commitment to serving those around her, embodying the essence of kindness that she was known for.
In her free time, Mary found happiness in various hobbies. She loved to read, play board games, and eagerly participated in bingo. Jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles provided her with both challenge and delight. Traveling was a passion of hers, particularly trips to Egypt and Europe, where she created lasting memories. Additionally, she made her famous lemon meringue pie, a treat that will be fondly remembered by her family.
Mary's passing, while a profound loss, came surrounded by her loving family, emphasizing the strong bonds she nurtured throughout her life. Her legacy of love, humor, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
Mary is survived by those who loved her most, children, David (Suzanne) Rayburn of Livonia, Michigan and Dianne (Leo) Heidemann of Rockford, Illinois; grandchildren, Scott (Melissa) Rayburn of Northville, Michigan, Dr. Lindsay (Josh) Holman of Northville, Michigan, Sarah Heidemann of Rockford, Illinois, and Bryan (Annie) Heidemann of Belvidere, Illinois; great grandchildren, Connor and Erin Rayburn of Northville, Michigan, Kieran and Adelaide Holman of Northville, Michigan, Lucas and Lydia Heidemann of Belvidere, Illinois and step daughter-in-law, Barbara Rayburn of Rochester, Michigan.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Benjamin and Norman; sister, Dolores Pedresche; and stepson, Donald Rayburn.
The family would like to give a thank you to the caring staff at Morning Star Village and Heartland Hospice, especially nurse Sarah. And a special thank you to her daughter, Dianne, for the wonderful care she took of mom.
A Memorial Mass will be held in May of 2026 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Private family burial will be in Parkview Memorial Cemetery in Livonia, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice, 6000 East State Street, Rockford, IL 61108.
