Obituary

Nina Irene Phipps (Beckman), age 83, of Loves Park, passed away on January 27, 2026. Nina was born to the late Arthur and Vera Meyer on February 28, 1942, in Freeport, IL. She was adopted at the age of seven by Otto and Erma Beckman of Sharon, WI.

Nina married Robert Richard Phipps Sr. on October 10, 1959, and they shared 54 years of marriage and friendship.

Nina spent most of her youth growing up on a farm in Sharon, WI. During her lifetime she worked as a machinist at Fairbanks Morse in Beloit, WI, and drove semi-truck cross country. Nina played the piano, was a talented quilter and she also loved to crochet. Other hobbies include riding motorcycles, genealogy, snorkeling, and fishing.

Survivors include children, Robert (Lettie) Phipps Jr., Peggy (Donald) Johnson, Tamera (David) Brandt, and William (Susan) Phipps; 11 grandchildren, Christine Phipps, Crystal Phipps, Courtney Phipps, Tashina Bianchi (Daniel), Amy Scribner (Israel), Adam Larson, Samantha Johnson (Jade), Daniel Brandt (Rebecca), Kelly Brandt (Adam), Michael Brandt and Zackary Phipps; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; siblings, Ralph Bovee (Joyce), Carol Holmbeck, Linda Borgwardt, John Bovee (Vivian), Eileen Bertrand (Bob), Marilyn Zank (Greg), Anthony Meyer (Susan); and many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, Nina was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Phipps Sr.; two children, Gregory and Kathy; brothers, Roy Kiekhafer and Dale Beckman.

A Funeral Service to honor Nina’s life will be on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61108, with a visitation prior to the service starting at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow the next day on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Mound Cemetery in Charleston, IL, 1285 W State St, Charleston, IL 61920.
