Obituary

Robert Lee Plaza, 91, passed away on October 12, 2026, in Port Washington, Wisconsin. He was born on April 30, 1935, in Schoefield, WI, the son of Peter P. and Demonica Plaza. He married Kathleen (Hoyle) Plaza on August 22, 1971.

Robert will be remembered as a jokester whose sense of humor brought lightness to those around him. He built a long and dedicated career, working as a manager for Tool Masters in Stillman Valley, formerly Ekstrom Carlson, for 25 years.

Outside of work, Robert found joy in the simple and meaningful pleasures that shaped his days. He loved to fish and earned distinction by winning an Illinois State record, an accomplishment that spoke to both his skill and his enthusiasm for the sport. He also enjoyed gardening, a pastime that reflected patience, attention, and a love of the outdoors.

Above all, Robert loved spending time with his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. Those moments with family were among the most meaningful parts of his life, and the love he shared with them will remain a lasting part of his memory.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his children, Sonia Shoup, Robert Shawn (Debbie) Plaza, Stanley (Sherri) Plaza, Monica Quintero, Dale (Marcia) Banfe, and Andre (Kelly) Plaza; his 17 grandchildren; his 9 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Demonica and Peter; his son, Brad Plaza; his son-in-law, Sonny, and son-in-law, Robert Quintero; his siblings, Clarence, Danny, Leonard, Darlene, and Delores.

A visitation will take place on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and a funeral service on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. both at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL, 61108. Burial at Monroe Center Cemetery where military honors will take place. To share memories or condolences online, please visit, www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
