Robert E. Sharp, known to many as Bob, passed away on October 13, 2026, in Rockford, Illinois. He was born on March 9, 1936, in Rockford, the only child of Lester and Edna (Coffman) Sharp.

Bob served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He worked as the Vice President in data processing for Illinois National Bank before leaving to become a co-owner of Runners Image. He was very active in Rockford Road Runners and was the president for many years.

He was an avid runner and enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought people together. He loved watching the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs, and Everybody Loves Raymond. He enjoyed hosting his annual Fourth of July party, a tradition that surely brought laughter and good company year after year. Bob was known for his good sense of humor, and those who knew him also knew his sarcastic and stubborn side, traits that were very much a part of the man they loved. He especially loved his grandkids, who brought him great joy.

Bob is survived by those who loved him most, daughters, Vickie (Rick Hallberg) Elmer, Debbie (Mike) Mastrangeli, and Pamela (Ramiro Gonzalez) True; grandchildren, Kyle (Brittany) Elmer, Becca (Jesse) Barrerra, Jessica (Arturo) Peterson-Rangel, Megs Peterson, and Hunter True; great grandchildren, Caleb, Wyatt and Tessa Elmer, Nathan Barrerra and baby girl Barrerra due in January; and special friend, Norma. He is predeceased by his parents; infant daughter, Susan Sharp; infant son, Robert Earl Sharp Jr.; and son-in-law, Brad Elmer.

The family would like to give a special thank you to his “family” at Heritage Woods of Rockford for their wonderful care of Bob.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory - Mulford, 1860 S Mulford Rd, Rockford, IL 61108. A memorial service will follow from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Bob will be remembered for his lively conversations, humor, and love. His memory will remain with all who knew him.
