Earth’s strongest warrior became Heaven’s mightiest angel. Ryan J. Carlson passed away on October 29, 2026, at the age of 28. He was born in Rockford, IL, the son of Jeffrey and Melissa (Garlick) Carlson.

Ryan was happiest being around those he loved. Whether he was sitting beside the game table listening to laughter fill the room or celebrating holidays with loved ones, Ryan delighted in the simple moments that brought people together.

To know Ryan was to know joy. His wide smile and infectious laugh spoke more than words ever could, and no one cried alone when he was around. Ryan was sunshine, a constant source of light and warmth. Although our hearts are broken, we take comfort in the countless memories of his smile, laughter, and the light he brought into the lives of all he encountered. He may no longer be with us, but that light of his will always shine through.

He is survived by his mother, Melissa Carlson; his father, Jeffrey (Cyndi) Carlson; his siblings, Nathanael Carlson, Trey Carlson, and Trenna Carlson; his numerous cousins; among other relatives and friends who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his Great-grandmother, Jayne “Grammy” Cottrell, and his Grandma Patrcia “Pat” Carlson.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date and time to be determined by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ryan’s memory to Walter Lawson Children’s Home. Walter Lawson’s was more than a home to Ryan; it was a place where he was deeply loved, cared for, and embraced as family, and it will always hold a special place in our hearts. The family was assisted by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory. To share memories and condolences online, please visit, www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
