Alice Bederka of Rockford, departed peacefully Friday, February 17, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 5, 1925, Cutty, Pennsylvania, to Joseph and Josephine Tavzelj. Alice married Paul M. Bederka, July 20, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan and together they raised 6 children.
Alice retired from JC Penneys after 27 years of service. She also spent many years as a volunteer at Swedish American Hospital. Gardening, watching and feeding birds was a great passion of hers along with putting smiles on the faces of her family and people around her.
　
She is survived by her children Paula (Jerome) Mais, Larry (Ida) Bederka, Craig (Janet) Bederka, Tom Bederka, and Bob (Julie) Bederka; grandchildren Kareen (Anthony) DiTullio, Jennifer (Johnathan) Kuss, Brian Bederka, Laurie Bederka, Becky (Charlie) Bragg, Sara (Rick) Frint, Hans (Alyssa) Bederka, Nicole Bederka, Kyle Bederka , Matthew Bederka and great-grandchildren ; Giovanna and Dominic DiTullio, Dain and Eden Kuss, Evan and Olivia Bederka, Travis Bederka, KC and Kayden Bederka. Predeased by her husband Paul Bederka; son, Timothy Bederka and daughter-in-law, Jean Bederka.
　
Funeral Mass Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll, Rockford, with visitation from 9:30 until time of prayer at 10:45 a.m. Private inurnment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to the family for a fund to be established at a later date. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family.
