Adelyn Collier

August 30, 1922 — January 25, 2011

Adelyn Goodell Collier, 88, of Rockford died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at P.A. Peterson Center for Health in Rockford, after a long illness. Born Aug. 30, 1922, in Rockford, daughter of Alfred and Ruby Goodell. Adelyn lived her life in Rockford. She worked many years with her husband, Edward G. Collier, in the family business, Collier RV Center, performing bookkeeping and other duties. She devoted her life to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. She had a warm heart, a ready smile, and an easy laugh. She loved her crossword puzzles, hot tea, baking pies, sewing and knitting, and music. She and Ed traveled extensively before she became ill, visiting more than 20 countries, including China, England, Singapore, Russia, the Ukraine, and New Zealand. Highlights: her rides atop a camel in Morocco and an elephant in Thailand. A lowlight: when she and Ed were separated by trains in London. She never liked to be far from Ed, whom she met at the Ing Roller Skating Palace in Rockford. After they married on July 13, 1942, she followed him to military bases across the country, including to Tucson, Arizona, where eldest daughter Phyllis was born in 1943. Adelyn was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Rockford for many years. Predeceased by Ed, her husband of 60 years; her daughter, Phyllis Coupar; daughter Vicki Collier; and sister, Virginia Guess.
