Rockford'Alda Agnes (Zandonatti) Di Tomassi, 87, of Rockford died Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at River Bluff Nursing Home surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born October 9, 1925 in Victoria, Texas the daughter of Angelo and Rose (Chiodini) Zandonatti. Alda moved to Rockford in 1941 from Victoria, Texas and attended Muldoon High School class of 1943. Attended Rock Valley College from 1970-1978. Employed in Educational Resources Center at Rock Valley College 1977 to 1993 as Library Media Technical Assistant. Married Arnold Di Tomassi on September 6, 1948 at St. James Catholic Church in Rockford, IL and he predeceased her on February 28, 1967. Member of the Cathedral of St. Peter, St. Ann Society, National Catholic Society of Foresters, St. Joseph's club of St. Peters, Facilitator for Catholic Bible Fellowship for Women, Video Ministry at St. Peters, Member of Center for Learning in Retirement, was active in Girl and Boy Scouting and a volunteer at New American Theater. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at River Bluff Nursing Home and to Northern Illinois Hospice.
Survivors, Children; Marilyn (David) Hanson, Arnold (Kayellen) Di Tomassi, Susan DeWitt, Charles (Cristine) Di Tomassi; Grandchildren; Carrie (Mark) Alper, Christopher Hanson, Lorrie Hanson, Lisa (Frank) Valentine, Andrew (Alysson) Barks, Sarah DeWitt, Melissa (Brandon) Johnson, Joseph Di Tomassi, John Di Tomassi and Grace Di Tomassi; Great-Grandchildren Sarah Rose, Emily and Mary, Riley, Tyler and Logan, Amelia and Gavin; siblings, Irene Crowley, Joseph (Gertie) Zandonatti, Agnes Paone, Emma (Phil) Waner, Rosemarie (John) Andriolo, Angelo (Sandy) Zandonatti, William (Lesley) Zandonatti and Gloria (Frank) Nargie. Sister in Law, Mary Zandonatti and brother in law, David Nelson. Predeceased by her parents, husband, brother Richard, sister, Carolyn and brothers- in ' Law, Phil Paone and William Crowley.
Funeral Mass at 11 am Monday, August 5, 2013 at St. Peters Cathedral 1243 N. Church Street, Rockford, Il 61103 with Fr. Carl Beekman officiating. Visitation from 10 to 10:45 am at the church. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
